Preparing your saddle stitch book
To prepare a book for us the files format must be a PDF. You can convert your documents to PDFs using your own PDF converter either online or as a print driver on your own computer. When converting to PDF, please maintain the “highest resolution” and make sure your fonts are embedded.

Pages:
We suggest allowing at least a 1.5cm margin on the binding edge of each page of your book and at least a 1.2cm margin at the top, bottom, and outside edges of each page. If you have any critical content including backgrounds or images proceeding to the edge of your pages, you will want to include a 4mm bleed on all four edges of your pages.

Cover:
Because the page count for a saddle stitch book must be in multiples of four, the first page in your book file should be your front cover, and the last page should be the outside back cover. The paper weight for a saddle stitch book cover is normally the same weight as the book pages and is called a "self-cover". However, you can select one of the three 100# cover stock options, if you wish, at the following additional charges.

Thermal Binding
Thermal Binding is a widely used soft cover bookbinding method. With this method, the
pages and cover are glued together at the spine with strong yet flexible thermal glue. The other three sides of the book are then trimmed as needed to give them clean “perfect” edges.

Thermal bound books have a square, printable spine and the cover is usually made from paper or cardstock that is heavier than the interior pages.  If desired, the cover can be clear coated to provide durability and improve appearance.

Authors commonly use thermal binding for fiction and non-fiction books because of its professional appearance and relatively low cost. For the very same reasons, businesses and organizations frequently use the perfect binding method on a variety of printing projects such as corporate reports, manuals, catalogues and thicker product brochures.

The advantages of thermal book binding are:

  • It is less expensive than hardcover binding methods. This method allows a high page count.
  • It can be used for very short production runs 1 or 150 books.
  • Books can be made with a heavier weight cover for durability and longevity.
  • This method forms a flat spinal edge which can be printed upon.
  • The finished shape allows books to stack well for storage and display.
  • Thermal binding provides a crisp, professional appearance.

Ring Bind Binding
With plastic ring binding the plastic teeth curved and is inserted through holes punched along the binding edge of the spine of the book.

Ring binding provides a unique advantage over other book binding styles.
Ring binding offers the advantage of enabling your book’s pages to lie flat – something that is ideal if your text encourages note-taking. The plastic ring binding is both durable and scratch resistant. You’ll never have a concern about pages coming loose – even after repeated use.

Ring binding is an ideal book binding style for a number of different types of books. Examples include cookbooks; technical and instructional books; workbooks, manuals, children’s books, hobby and crafts books.

Minimum and maximum page limits
The minimum number of pages for plastic ring binding books is eight, and the maximum number of pages is 450.

Preparing your ring binding book
To prepare a book for us the files format must be a PDF. You can convert your documents to PDFs using your own PDF converter either online or as a print driver on your own computer. When converting to PDF, please maintain the “highest resolution” and make sure your fonts are embedded.

Pages
Because of the punching process, we suggest allowing at least a 1.5cm margin on the binding edge of each page of your book and at least a 1.2cm margin at the top, bottom, and outside edges of each page. This will place your page content in a more center position.

If you have any critical content including backgrounds or images proceeding to the edge of your pages, you will want to include a 4mm bleed on all four edges.

Cover
When creating a cover for your plastic ring binding book, you can format it the same as your text pages. It comes in variety of colours.
